It feels stupid to say so, but what evolves devolves and vice versa. What was a blessing evolves into a curse and vice versa. What was a shining revolution devolves into a dictatorship and vice versa. What was the bright banner of Zen Buddhism devolves into the "authentic" and relic-strewn arena of institutions and teachers and vice versa.
Evolution and devolution are thus constructs of the mind. (D)evolution is just what happens. And what happens cannot be named.
