crucifixion and resurrection

.
My wife told me that next Sunday is Easter.

Easter, by Christian reckoning, is a time of resurrection ... in their case, the resurrection of Jesus.

But it occurs to me that everyone, every day, suffers a crucifixion ... and an invariable resurrection. The Christian tale is pretty grisly and pretty hopeful but for the rest of us ... well, it's just what we do, isn't it?

Day by day, week by week, year by year, moment by moment ... crucified by a present we may have claimed to foresee, but never really did, and resurrected in the day or week or year or moment we could not possibly predict. Calling it grisly or hopeful is just an extra, an add-on, a tale worth telling because ... well, because I want to tell it.

When is there a time that is not a crucifixion?

When is there a day that is not Easter?

Drawing some line between crucifixion and resurrection is like taking a very sharp knife to the ocean's edge with the intention of cutting that ocean into digestible morsels.

  1. On this very subject I recall from a very young age being reminded by clergy that each time I (we) sinned Christ was again crucified! And people wonder why us recovering Catholics are so peed off with religion looking back at a lost youth/life trying to put all that shite behind us. Maybe we are as peed off as those Zombies, mentioned above, on second thoughts maybe we are Zombies!!
