As the old saying goes, there are only two things that are really necessary in life -- WD-40 (a lubricant) to make things go and duct tape to make them stop.
This wonderful, yet etched, silliness is enough to make me smile in some sort of rueful human recognition. Yes indeed, I would like to think there were only one or two straightforward answers to twisty, nagging, interlocking difficulties.
WD-40 and duct tape ... the nostrum is as good (and ridiculous) as any other. Since nostrums prove themselves unreliable time after time after time, at least I can get a laugh out of "WD-40 and duct tape." The wonderful thing about laughter is that it requires no improvement.
WD-40 and duct tape are things that are applied to other things -- improvements to unimproved or even broken situations. WD-40 and duct tape make things work "better."
It's all enough to make me wonder what it might be like if I stopped using things as a means of improving other things ... oiling, taping, adding, subtracting, praising, blaming ... is there a place in the world where nothing needs fixing ... the kind of fixing that only requires more fixing ... ad (unsatisfactory) nauseam?
Is there a room in the house where absolutely nothing needs improvement, a place where no effort is required, a place to sit down, kick back and have a nice, cold beer?
It seems to me that finding that room might be worth the effort.
And laughter would be a good place to start.
