fire, water, relief

.
In nine western states -- notably Colorado and New Mexico -- wildfires continue to scorch vast tracts of dessicated land. Hundreds of firefighters, thousands of acres, dozens of decimated structures and at least one death. It is huge ... huge ... huge.

Here in the East, we are feeling the effects of yet another day of rain and grey and moist and soul-damping weather. From horizon to horizon -- gloooom-y!

Where the fires rage, we pray for rain. Where the rain rages, we pray for the fire of the sun.

Relief seems to be the constant....

And reminds me of the Zen teacher Ta Hui (1089-1163) when he wrote to a student and said, among other things, "...stop praying for relief."
