Bill Moyers on Ralph Reed

.
Ralph Reed
How nice it might be if the Department of Homeland Security, an institution dedicated to saving us all from ill-defined "terrorists," would turn its attention to more palpable threats to what's left of American democracy ... as for example Ralph Reed, founder of the Faith and Freedom Coalition and an attractive and duplicitous fellow who continues to manipulate the 'word of God' on behalf of a right-wing political agenda... and quite a lot of cold, hard cash into the bargain.

Bill Moyers is an admitted liberal, as far as I know, but his piece on Ralph Reed, while not always able to tie up all of the facts, paints a portrait of a man who leaves Osama bin Laden in the shade. A part of the horror lies in the fact that Reed is so literally attractive -- clean, insistent without being over-the-top, corrupting the Christianity he implicitly espouses in the same way bin Laden twisted the Koran ... and Moyers allows the viewer to see this in ways that those in Reed's camp would be unlikely to offer to Moyers and his left-leaning confreres.

Yes, Moyers' piece is longer than a Tweet, but sometimes terrorism deserves a more lingering look.
