forsaking all things

In Zen Buddhism among others, monks and nuns are sometimes described as having left their families, as traveling with nothing more than "one robe and one bowl." The descriptive is used to distinguish them from lay people who do not forsake the wiles of the world. Few, if any, seem to dispute the description.

And, leaving Buddhism out of the mix for a moment, there seem to be few if any offspring who do not hope either to emulate the parents who have nourished them or to take a diametrically opposed direction to the pains those parents have inflicted.

Leaving a worldly life behind.

Leaving a parental world behind.

But today I honestly wonder how anyone could either escape or embrace that which had brought them to this very moment.

How in the wide, wide world of sports does that make any sense? I'm not saying people don't try ... I'm just wondering how much honesty is involved.

If embracing what is true is impossible and if escaping what is true is equally impossible ... well, as they say on the Internet, WTF?! ... is there some reason for a dog to scratch imaginary fleas?!
