DALLAS — I am a Republican presidential elector, one of the 538 people asked to choose officially the president of the United States. Since the election, people have asked me to change my vote based on policy disagreements with Donald J. Trump. In some cases, they cite the popular vote difference. I do not think presidents-elect should be disqualified for policy disagreements. I do not think they should be disqualified because they won the Electoral College instead of the popular vote. However, now I am asked to cast a vote on Dec. 19 for someone who shows daily he is not qualified for the office. Is it a useless gesture? I would say not. Trump will be president, I suspect, but the country will be left begging as a result.

elector to withhold vote for Trump
This is old, but I missed it and thought it was worth the price of admission since listening to author Christopher Suprun speak on the car radio earlier today: He sounded like someone who cared about the country he and I share:
Makes me wonder what he thinks does disqualify Trump?
ReplyDeleteI have my reasons. #1 is that Trump lies so damn much. #2 is that he is so narcissistic that he makes the average narcissist seem like a compassionate saint. #3 is the Russian connection. #4 is temperament. #5 - #99. Is policy. #100 see #1.
"Makes me wonder what he thinks does disqualify Trump?"
ReplyDelete#NotMyPresident -- I believe his oped piece lists his reasons.
Thanks.
DeleteRead it several days ago. Found it difficult to read and missed how he presented what I consider the more important points. Probably hard for the author to write given his evident loyalty to the Republican Party.
I'm not a huge fan of Rousseau, more of a Voltaire guy, but Jean Jacques nails the tea party/trump insanity with this...
ReplyDelete"Liberty is a food easy to eat, but hard to digest; it takes very strong stomachs to stand it. I laugh at those debased peoples who, allowing themselves to be stirred up by rebels, dare to speak of liberty without having the slightest idea of its meaning, and who, with their hearts full of all the servile vices, imagine that, in order to be free, it is enough to be insubordinate."
LOL!
DeleteI doubt that the Tea and Trumpettes would understand your quote of Rousseau.
May we be well, happy, safe, and peaceful.
ReplyDeleteMay we be free from suffering and the causes of it.
May we find happiness and the causes of it.
May we never be separated from sorrowless bliss.
May we abide in equanimity, freedom from bias, and freedom from affliction.
May we be well, happy, safe, and peaceful.
