Is it possible to learn what you do not already know? I'm not sure.
On the one hand, the nabobs of wisdom would be out of a job if it were true. All the sweat and confoundations of learning might be thrown into a cocked hat and implied idiocy might rule the roost.
On the other hand, how could it be otherwise?
I guess it doesn't matter much. The thought just crossed my mind.

Isn't that the definition of learning? To investigate and then know more than before?

ReplyDeleteTake Mathematics. Many people have a hard time getting beyond Arithmetic but some people do get beyond it.
Those who do learn subjects like probability, statistics, graph theory, analytical geometry, calculus, etc. don’t already know it, but somehow have a set of traits that permit them to successfully learn those subjects.
The same thing applies to things like language, music, etc.
