From a couple of posts back, a word I had never heard, "spruik" [sprook]:
verb (used without object), Australian Slang.
No one seems to know where it came from, though it sounds a little Dutch to me. Whatever -- bullshit, of which "spruik" seems to partake, has no ancestral land of origin.to make or give a speech, especially extensively or elaborately; spiel; orate.
Not much value In using a word nobody knows.
ReplyDeleteI find it amusing to use rarely used words.
ReplyDeleteI like wikitionary’s entry:
https://en.m.wiktionary.org/wiki/spruik
From that entry:
“2011, Kylie Ofiu, Work as a spruiker, 365 Ways to Make Money, page 120, ‘It can be a hard job, constantly on your feet, trying to think of things to say to lure people into the store you are spruiking for.’”
Sounds like something the Red Headed POTUS would say.
That is exactly what it means "to bullshit elaborately"
