Due to the way TV has portrayed coroners and medical examiners for decades, it is likely that most of the people of the USA believed that their communities’ coroners are MDs with a specialty in Forensics. The only nuance being the corrupt coroners.
Also, living in large, medium or small communities no doubt has an impact on local reporting. In NYC the coroner seems to always be an MD so this issue doesn’t appear to exist.
