For those inclined towards spiritual endeavor or practice, I think there is a natural tendency to be concerned with the bad habits of the past that have provided fuel to the fires of current regret and uncertainty.
One way of putting it is that bad habits come back to haunt you. And, for those inclined towards spiritual endeavor or practice, there is often some effort to correct or clarify or get to the root of those habits. It is hard, and sometimes hellacious, work. Investigation is not for the faint of heart.
But habits are interesting, and today I think that it is worth saying:
Your good habits will come back to haunt you and require a hard, sometimes hellacious, effort to clarify. This is not just some sissified theory or philosophy.
Habits by their nature leave traces and shadows. Bad habits, good habits ... traces and shadows remain.
But what is it that remains when this moment is gone ... and gone before anyone can wax lyrical about good habits or bad?
It's not something to worry about or belabor, but I do think it is worth considering: Your good habits will come back to haunt you and nobody likes being haunted.
