What do you think your reaction would be if the person you were when you first grew interested in spiritual endeavor ran into the person you are today?
I'm not sure I would be entirely pleased with my 'future' self: Undisciplined, prone to dirty jokes, suspicious of religion and its outriggers, crabby from time to time, sure as hell not 'enlightened'... the list is pretty long.
On the other hand, I would be inclined to lend my earlier self a hand, as long as he didn't get too smarmy or correct.

ReplyDeleteWah??! You're me?! :P

Hard..
Thanks,

could be wrong,
ReplyDeletebut there are always three selves.. the present self, the past self, and the future self.
i remember during my childhood i read a comic called Doraemon, it was about a young Japanese boy whose grandson in the 22th century decided to send a "time-travelling robotic maid" from his time to the 20th century to help his grandfather who was a perpetual failure in school life.
This 22nd century hoped that by sending the robotic maid to change the past, he could somehow improve his present in the year 2145, who knows, become a rich young man?
With the help of the very same time travel machine, his 20th century grandfather decided that the problem didn't lie with him, it was his ancestor's fault. So he too, embarked on another journey back 150 years to year 1830, where his ancestor (great-great-grandfather) was a hunter in the mountains.
Although all his peers' great grandfathers back then were samurai warriors, only his ancestor was a hunter who not only was a poor one, but darent even hunt anything bigger than small rabbits.
With the 22nd century latest technology to hunt even mammoths, this ancestor was still willing to hunt small animals, and he used it to hunt his first wild boar, and that was his biggest capture in life.
Like I said earlier, my views could be wrong, sir, but, who/what/when/how can help anybody other than the present our-selves?
i cry, because i always wanted to do something for my parents who helped me so much that i could not wash my own underwear
Something happened to me today. I cracked a dirty suggestive joke to a younger girl colleague. She was so beautifully correct and virtuous, gentle and kind, and she made the entire office seem ugly and impoverished spiritually. In my head all I could think of was, DAMN, she looked up and (appeared to) trust me so much, am I gonna do a Eido Tai Shimano on her?
ReplyDeleteI'm confiding to you upfront that I asked her if she wanted to date, she was hesitant, and I told her that I'll buy the condom. When I dashed out of the office she gave me "that" look.
Could it be that several months ago, I was exactly in her shoes and my boss found the same problem with me, hence he had to retrench me for no fair reason, leaving me with "that" feeling?
Whatever it is, I sure turned off the "enlightened being" that was in office today.
