In serious news, a U.S. District judge has struck down "a portion of a law giving the government wide powers to regulate the
detention, interrogation and prosecution of suspected terrorists, saying
it left journalists, scholars and political activists facing the
prospect of indefinite detention for exercising First Amendment rights," according to the Associated Press.
While governmental encroachments on civil liberties under the banner of "patriotism" or "national security" have racked up more wins than losses during the most recent decade, still it is nice to think that some of this despotic eyewash can be called to heel.
Perhaps the TV will do another of its endless reruns of "V for Vendetta," a movie which, if a bit simplistic, still manages to suggest some of the insidious inroads our 'protectors' can fabricate and have imposed.
