The word "buddha" means "awake."
It's pretty simple. "Awake" is not "asleep."
No one who wakes up in the morning marvels at his or her good fortune, creates vast philosophies, or tells long and involved stories. Awake is just what anyone does in the morning before heading to the bathroom to take a leak.
Awake.
Anyone who is awake knows they are not asleep.
And yet what a conundrum in Buddhism ... all those awake people running around claiming to be asleep.
Only an awake person could claim to be asleep.
Or awake either.
Talk about a bunch of nut job buddhas!
