As during the 872-day siege of Leningrad during World War II, scientists have now unearthed evidence that the cruel winter of 1609-1610 led English settlers at Jamestown, Va., to feast on each others' remains.

"The evidence is absolutely consistent with dismemberment and de-fleshing of this body," said Doug Owsley, a forensic anthropologist at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in Washington DC.
Interesting to notice how, just about the time anyone gets their 'civilized' and well-educated and culturally-adroit ducks lined up, there's a gust of reality-check wind that topples the goslings.
