Passed along in email yesterday, as if there had not been enough of them before, there came this video depicting the inequalities between the have's and the have-not's. Sure enough, it was depressing ... again.
And, coming to mind in the wake of such videos ...
In a country of something less than 315 million people, there are a guesstimated 300 million privately-owned guns ... "'upwards of 300 million, and now rises by about 10 million per year,'
said the NRA’s Institute for Legislative Action in a firearms safety
fact sheet released Jan. 17, 2013."
No one wants violence ... at least not too close to home; there is the consoling, docile-sheep factor that the have's implicitly rely on in their have-not's; and blood-shed is 'uncivilized and cruel' if you listen to the have's who have been to Harvard and Oxford and analyze such things....
And yet there is the bone-deep aptness of the Somali intelligence officer who once observed of the pirates doing business off his coast, "If you do not share your wealth with us, we will share our poverty with you."
I guess that what is deplored seldom gets a look in the bathroom mirror.
This really represents the historical norm, which the american dream was supposed to correct.
ReplyDeleteOh well, back to the drawing board, I guess. Nightmares take their toll.
