another nominee for high office

Sometimes it seems logical, if not imperative, to overlook and under-appreciate segments of America...
Sam Clovis, who has been nominated by Donald Trump to be the department of agriculture’s top scientist, previously ran a blog where he called progressives “race traders and race ‘traitors’” and likened former president Barack Obama to a “communist” and a “dictator”.
Clovis, previously a college professor and radio talk show host in Iowa, wrote the blog for his show Impact with Clovis. The website has been taken down but is archived.
The Department of Agriculture's "top scientist" sounds like a serious and occasionally pivotal role. Sam Clovis sounds loud, but not substantive ... like his wannabe boss, I guess.

  1. The US president, whose family heritage includes KKK links, appoints a scientist that calls progressives "race traitors".

Of course progressives are "race traitors"! Surely the direction of being progressive - from a racial perspective - leaves behind such old-fashioned and even false notions of well-defined races, no?

Being traitor to a mostly false perception can't be that bad...

President Donald Trump plans to nominate his longtime campaign aide Sam Clovis to head science at the US Department of Agriculture, despite the fact that Clovis lacks a background in science and a congressional rule maintains that the role must be filled "from among distinguished scientists."

Republicans in the House and Senate need to be removed!

Americans, please wake up and let your representatives know things like this are totally unacceptable.
    Hello?
    Is anyone paying attention?

    1. Forgot about that.

I suppose there's never enough nominally qualified loyal people for an unqualified elected official with an uncivic agenda to pick from.

Still Shudder at the thought of Rick Perry as the head of the Department of Energy. Unqualified and evern looks clueless.

Check out Confucian Meritocracy. Seems to be better than the bogus republican democracy institution we currently have. The first problem is finding advocates of such a system, second is voting in solid upright legislators to approve of such a system, and a president willing to implement such a system.

We need better educated citizens. May be more new immigrants can help.

Ah. It's almost time for tea.

      Have a good one.

  5. My question is why has Trump selected an person who is not a scientist to be the top scientist at the Department of Agriculture?
What is wrong with Mr. Trump?

I mean I could see that, possibly, but not likely, an excellent scientist could happen to be a racist. But to fill a job calling for a distinguished scientist with a non-scientist racist.Shouldn't that alone get people scratching their heads about Mr. Trump's sanity (if not his motivations)?

  6. I see it as an anti-intellectual movement with a base of less educated folks who are suspicious of anything they can't understand, some of which might be considered pretty basic. I imagine they feel safer having a non-scientist, someone not "blinded by science" to oversee what they mistrust. It's witchcraft to them, and only an old fashioned true believer will keep them safe from it. And of course there's nothing more old fashioned than racism.

In Loving v. Virginia, the local court prosecuting the Lovings for miscegenation wrote:

Almighty God created the races white, black, yellow, malay and red, and he placed them on separate continents. And but for the interference with his arrangement there would be no cause for such marriages. The fact that he separated the races shows that he did not intend for the races to mix.

Clearly, belief trumps reason here. Superstition trumps science. (no pun intended, but i'll take it) They're willing to accept a very human god who reminds them of their parents, but unwilling to crack a book. They remain children who expect a parental caretaker to do the heavy lifting. But essentially the difference between a dog and a wolf is that a wolf matures and takes responsibility while a dog remains a puppy for life.
