cosmic meanings

Carson Dean Cheney
Thornton Wilder's "The Bridge of San Luis Rey" tells the story of various individuals who arrive at a bridge quite coincidentally and are killed when the bridge collapses. The book won a Pulitizer Prize in 1928.

In Utah on Thursday, four-year-old Carson Dean Cheney was killed while hamming it up in a graveyard in an attempt to amuse people his father was trying to photograph. A grave stone from behind which he was sticking his head collapsed on him.

The cosmic ruminations in Utah, like the cosmic ruminations of the book, will have to wait while grief has its say.
