During yesterday's TV coverage of the Olympic Games in London, there was a feature story about a burly, young American woman who had scraped and scrimped, begged and borrowed, in order to become the first-class weight-lifter she was.
She had grown up in poverty.
When Christmas came around, family members would offer each other photographs of the gift they might otherwise have actually given.
Poverty.
Religion uses the words of others to present a gift the giver cannot name or actualize, much less photograph.
There is poverty and then there is poverty passing for goodness.
Well, I guess that's why everyone is equipped with tear ducts.
