creating an authority

My sense is this:

Create an authority and dig in -- follow it without a backward glance, find its edges and parameters, and get to know it through and through.

Alternatively, so to speak, create an anti-authority -- follow it without a backward glance, find its edges and parameters, and get to know it through and through.

Either way, come sundown, what's left is the creator ... or creating ... or whatever you want to call it.

And isn't the laughter worth the price of admission?

  5. The root of authority (as I am sure you know!) is author, and of this in turn is father...

Do we "create" an authority or does it emerge of its own accord, like the eye of a hurricane or an author from a blog?

  6. Sometimes in emerges by insisting to the gullible that we are not an authority.
Say it often enough and some will see it as proof positive of authority.
    That's how western Zen rolls.

    Less authoritative than thou.....

Good old Yanqui sturdily independent, can -do spirit that leads to a thousand mini Sanghas all denying their authority more loudly than the other guy.
