Al-Jazeera has a pretty nice take on how legislators side with cable companies to withhold competitive broadband services from the public.
A look at the legislative process in some of these states, however,
reveals very close collaboration between the cable industry and
lawmakers where the primary goal is simply to protect private companies
from public competition.
Just remembered this. A broadband company took a poll where they asked people if they would pay more for a faster internet experience. Most folks being concerned about the cost of things said no. So the broadband company's reported to congress that a poll said folks didn't want a faster internet. This kind of manipulation of reasoning is meat and drink to movers and shakers.
It's always the money.
