"I see the hangman's noose"

.
On Friday, Iran hanged at 23-year-old woman who was 17 at the time she was accused of murdering her father's cousin. According to her lawyer, the woman at first confessed to the crime because her boyfriend assured her that Iran would not hang a juvenile offender.

She later recanted and said her boyfriend had committed the murder. The boyfriend was sentenced to 10 years for complicity in the slaying. But the young woman was hanged despite evidence the lawyer said was ignored by the court. For example, Delara Darabi was left-handed, while all the evidence suggested that someone right-handed had committed the crime.

Her attorney said that Darabi had not been allowed to see her parents. But she was allowed one last phone call before the hanging. She talked to her mother, and, according to the lawyer, what she said was this:

"Oh, Mother, I see the hangman's noose in front of me. They are going to execute me. Please save me."

This is not just some news story.
