the ambassador jumps

.
They were all standing around chatting amiably when the ambassador detached himself from the group, walked over to a retaining wall in the Brussels parking garage, and flung himself to his death.

Just like that, what was hidden became demonstrably apparent.

The news story effort, like the human reaction, is to search for the impetus and meaning of this anomalous behavior. At the moment, no one knows why the ambassador jumped, but soon enough there will be an explanation that seems to allow a return to an environment without anomalies.

A world without anomalies is a pretty unkind environment, pretty self-centered, and, more important, pretty full of shit. It may feel safe and secure, but a single glance in the bathroom mirror should suffice to put the lie to this 'truth.'

Unkindnesses of this sort deserve attention. Unkind to others, unkind to oneself. Unkindness may be easier, but it remains unkind and thus sour in the soul. The less-easy way, the way of acknowledging what are slickly referred to as "anomalies," ... well, aside from anything else, it creates a much more interesting and accurate picture of this human life.

Life is just plain more interesting than the interest anyone brings to it.
