As if the visceral fear of being devoured from beneath by a shark were not enough, now the uncertainty of your bedroom rises up.

Engineers in Florida are trying to gauge the future hungers of the sinkhole that took Bush but, based on the news story, it sounds like a thankless and impossible chore: Sinkholes and other decimators of human certainty have their own agendas.

Certainty appears to be a poor companion ...
