your own true name

.
Fugai Ekun (1558-1664) was a Zen monk and artist about whom there are only sketchy details

But enough is known to say that "Fugai" means "beyond the wind, " a name that suits each of us down to the ground.

  1. Don't know if it's appropriate to say "beyond the wind" suits us all but Fugai did some nice artwork, IMO. Check some of it out Artist Fugai

BTW -- Some reading this blog like hermit monks. At one point Fugai was an abbot who became (or maybe had to become!) a cave and hut dweller modeling himself after the legends of Bodhidharma. Bodhidharma became one his is favorite subjects as well.

  2. Sweet! I wish I could look like that. I have in the past, but now I have less hair. Just had to shave the face. Heads just bald. Oh well, well oh.
