good news

The former CBS newsman, Walter Cronkite, once observed that "news is not about how many cats did not get up on the garage roof."

For all the aptness of that observation, still the drumbeat of upheaval and sorrow that news can depict can be wearing, very wearing.

Where's the good news -- the stuff that makes a heart smile in recognition and appreciation? I don't just mean the egregiously sappy stories about the success Troop 4 had when selling Girl Scout cookies. You know ... just something to raise a trustworthy smile?

Well, today is a brilliantly sunny one. The air seems refreshed by a series of rainy days that preceded it. It's a starting point, I imagine.

Not that there's any choice in the matter.
