Panthera blytheae was similar to modern snow leopards, palaeontologists say  
-- The oldest big-cat fossil has been unearthed in Tibet.

-- In Afghanistan, a country whose national economy, I believe, relies for more than 50% of its income on opium production, the opium harvest has reached a record high, so to speak.

-- A study suggests that depression can speed the human aging process. I'm not sure if this experience might be mitigated by the increased opium production if Afghanistan.

-- Five days after one of the strongest storms ever recorded hit the Philippines, desperation and near-anarchy have gripped many of the survivors. Aid is coming in, but it is not always reaching those in dire need.
