Lovely pic of the fog on the Thames..the view from our window and balcony was just like that yesterday, except of course that our Thames view does not include the Houses Of Parliament.
ReplyDeleteIt was very quiet because London Heathrow ( 12 miles away ) was fogbound.
Peter -- I posted the fog pic in part because it occurred to me how well it fits with my own ridiculous and stereotypiingl view of "foggy London town."
ReplyDeleteHeavy fog is far less common now Adam compared to when I was a kid. Things improved after the passing of a Clean Air Act when various emissions were outlawed ..the big difference was a general movement away from coal fires in a domestic setting.
ReplyDeleteNowadays when fog occurs it is entirely a meterological matter, cold and warm air coming together to produce a 'bathroom' effect.
When it does occur its deliciously Dickensian and Jack-The-Ripperish.
Somehow Sherlock Holmes could not be Sherlock Holmes in my mind without the fog....
