A 25-year-old Pakistani woman has been stoned to death by her family outside the Lahore High Court in a so-called 'honour killing' for marrying the man she loved, police said.Farzana Iqbal was waiting for the court to open when a group of around dozen men began attacking her with bricks, said senior police officer Umer Cheema.
Her father, two brothers and former fiance were among the attackers, he said.
First thing that came to mind was "god is love". But that was a new testament injection, so i guess moslems and jews are exempt... and old testament fundamentalist xtians. That old testament god was all about wrath and jealousy, which fits the circumstances in this story.
ReplyDeleteRumi was a 'moslem' ...by which I suspect that you mean Muslim.
ReplyDelete" 'Moslem' is a dogwhistle indicating teabags and things teabaggery "
ReplyDeleteGreg Laden.
Wikipedia: "A Muslim, sometimes spelled Moslem, is an adherent of Islam, a monotheistic Abrahamic religion based on the Quran."
ReplyDeleteThe dogwhistle sounded in vain. Expand your search beyond Wiki.
ReplyDeleteAnd jew might more properly be termed judaic, but that apparently doesn't require correction? And i suppose xtian is a proper reference.
ReplyDelete" Jew " is perfectly correct. Judaic is an adjective.
ReplyDelete" xtian " is merely an abbreviation.
" Moslem " is not simply an alternative spelling.
Its archaic. I suspect that you used it unwittingly..but the Right use it as a marker to identify a set of attitudes. Check it out.
I'm a baby boomer and so missed the memo that says moslem is no longer PC. But i don’t see how that makes it teabaggish as a lot of folks see spelling as less important than content. The American Moslem Foundation hasn’t changed the spelling of their name as yet. My bad on judaic, comes of rushing, but i imagine xtians find the abbreviation diminutive and so offensive. I don’t mind offending institution that engage in offensive behaviors by right of creed. What this has to do with the discussion of old testament brutality escapes me though.
ReplyDeleteI did hear an interesting opinion by human rights activist Farzani Bari on expressing that it had less to do with religion than tribalism and patriarchy. But i can think of nothing that promotes patriarchy or tribal law more than the old testament common to jews, moslems/muslims/mosalman/mohammedans/mohometans, as you wish, and xtians.
This comes to mind... Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel. - King James Bible "Authorized Version", Cambridge Edition. Bible Verses like Matthew 23:24.
