"no forwarding address"

There was something about Carl Koehler's black-and-white photo in the newspaper that lay open on the porch this morning: Was it possible I had known this guy?

It was with that question in mind that I read Koehler's obituary and realized that no, I had not known this entomologist who had had some local ties, sired several children and been rewarded with grandchildren into the bargain.

Though I do not yet make an old-age habit of reading obituaries, still I was glad to have read this one. The next-to-last paragraph made me smile and that's always a nice way to start the day:

Carl requested that there be no service and in his own words, he is "leaving no forwarding address." The children plan to scatter Carl's ashes in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California.

Who knows but what an ember of wit will fill the world with a forest fire of laughter.
