the once and future news room

Had a chance to read this article in The Nation while sitting in the dentist's office today. It's pretty good and resonates, for me, with a sadness that is both personal and impersonal:

    Well, things do change. The institutions and heroes we took comfort in when young fade with our abilities. As top democracy, as near as i can tell it's a wolf and a few sheep deciding what's for dinner. A lovely idea, but...
