burger-flipping robot

Out-of-work coal miners who may once have thought Donald Trump was the cat's pajamas because "he's got the right idea even if 'clean coal' is a pipe dream ... I can always get a job flipping burgers" may need to think again.
A burger-flipping robot that doesn’t require a paycheck or benefits — and can grill 150 burgers per hour — is now a cook at Cali Burger.
It’s called ‘Flippy.’
The robot, or more specifically, a specialized industrial six-axis robotic arm bolted to the kitchen floor, works lunchtime shifts at the international burger chain’s Pasadena, Calif., location....[F]lippy ... raises questions about U.S. job loss. About 80 percent of job losses in American manufacturing over the past 30 years, for example, were the result of technological displacement, and recent studies show that pattern will spread across other industries as well. As much as 40 percent of the U.S. workforce could watch their jobs be absorbed by technology by the early 2030s, according to a 2017 report.
Of course Trump's "tax reform" will probably fill in the gaps, right?

  1. Can it fetch patties from the cooler? Put 'em on a bun and apply secret sauce? Clean the grill? Clean itself?
